On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) wants to increase your online safety. Do as the more than 50,000 Belgians who use the free Safeonweb browser extension, a powerful tool to detect unsafe websites.
With the rising number of phishing attacks and rogue websites, the Safeonweb browser extension is a simple and effective way to protect yourself while surfing. It lets you know to what extent you can trust the websites you visit.
The system alerts users with a colour signal, similar to a traffic light, when you land on a website:
- Green: The website is safe, you can surf without worry.
- Orange: The owner of this website cannot be verified. You can visit this website, but do not enter any personal data on this website.
- Red: Stop immediately, this website is unsafe and may be harmful.
‘Just as traffic lights promote safety in traffic, the Safeonweb browser extension helps users make conscious choices on the internet,’ said Miguel De Bruycker, director general the CCB. ‘We are proud that 50,000 Belgians have taken steps towards active cyber protection.’
Active cyber protection is a proactive approach to protect users and systems from digital threats. Instead of only acting reactively after an incident, active cyber protection focuses on early detection and prevention of potential threats.
A simple step towards better security
The Safeonweb browser extension is easy to install and works on common browsers such as Chrome and Edge. The extension is also expected on Safari and Firefox browsers before the summer.
Safer Internet Day reminds us how important it is to remain vigilant in our digital habits. The CCB encourages all Belgians to install the Safeonweb browser extension today and take additional measures to protect themselves from online threats.
